NAC Members Ride Free for the Holidays

The Norman Arts Council announced today that any 2010 member can now ride the 2nd Friday Circuit of Art trolley for free. NAC members simply need to show their membership card to the Cleveland Area Rapid Transit driver and their ride will be free.

“CART rides have traditionally cost $.50 for one ride on the trolley or $2.00 for the entire evening,” said Erinn Gavaghan, NAC Executive Director. “This is a small cost, but we want to show our membership how much they mean to us by giving them free rides on the CART starting this month.

As always, 2nd Friday Circuit of Art is offering everyone in the City of Norman a chance to see a wide diversity of art. From

2nd Friday Circuit of Art, collaboration between the Norman Arts Council, Norman Gallery Association, CART and many participating galleries and businesses, brings the art out every month in Norman. Whether you like dance, painting, photography, or music, there will be something for you to see and hear during the 2nd Friday of this month in Norman.

As always, all events are free and open to the public from 6:00 p.m. until at least 9:00 p.m.

EVENTS FOR 2ND FRIDAY CIRCUIT OF ART:

FORM+FUNCTION LAB – (123 E Main St, Suite 200, formfunctionlab@gmail.com) Beau Mansfield will play music at 9pm. We’ll be having a silent auction too! We will have some blank Coroplast canvases for you to paint and assemble into some kind of mural-type thing on the north wall of the studio. It will be paired up with some other mural-type things that you or someone like you helped make in the months before.

IRON STARR BARBECUE (575 S University Blvd, 405-310-3233) will have guests from SWAN playing throughout the night.

STASH (412 E Main St, 405-701-1016) invites you to see the works of Clark Brown. Clark has created a new limited edition series of giclées (pronounced zhee-clay), where he produces his computer generated art onto museum quality archival canvas, creating bright, vivid colors using the latest in printmaking technology. His “27 Club Series” featuring Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Brian Jones was inspired by his early days in San Francisco where he was able to see them perform live before their untimely deaths. His “Western Perspective Series” was inspired by the Native American and Western culture that made up the fabric of the early west. This series presently includes Geronimo, Sitting Bull, Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley. The series will eventually include Wild Bill Hickok, Jesse James, Belle Starr and many other notable western and Native American figures.

SONDER MUSIC (225 E Gray St, 405-474-9734) The Norman Women’s Collective and the Norman Queer Alliance will host their annual Womens & Queer Arts Fest on November 12, 2010, at Sonder Music, Dance & Art (225 E Gray St) from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The show will feature women and queer artists and musicians.

DREAMER CONCEPTS STUDIO & FOUNDATION (324 E Main St, 405-701-0048) brings us Dreamers 29:  SWArT, “Not Us This Time,”  a combined exhibit featuring video PSAs, written word performances and visual pieces created by Norman High, Norman North and Noble High School students.  SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) is joining forces with local high school art and media classes to send a message about the harmful effects of tobacco and big tobacco corporations.

GALLERY 123 (123 E Main St) is having a holiday event - One Peace At A Time. On those days, the gallery will donate 10% of all sales to Food and Shelter for Friends. In November, special treats for visitors will feature all things chocolate, luscious confections and pastries and rich hot chocolate. One Peace At A Time begins on Friday, November 12 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. in conjunction with Norman’s Second Friday Circuit of the Arts. The extended Saturday hours will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. We invite you to come up and help us eat all those delectable chocolate treats. Gallery 123 is located on the second floor, above Forward Foods, at 123 E. Main St. 

HALL OF TATTOOS – (328 E Main St, 405-364-7335) will have a guest airbrush artist on hand making custom t-shirts.

GRAY OWL COFFEE – (223 E Gray St, 405-701-2929) will be a celebrating their one-year anniversary.  They will have new work up by Alan Hatcher, an artist from Norman who lives in Chicago.  It’s their first show to have one person fill the entire space, so should be pretty interesting.  They will also have three bands: Pa Pa Win, The Workweek, and Penny Hill.  

FIREHOUSE ART CENTER (444 S Flood, 405-329-4523) will be having the opening of the Holiday Gift Gallery! More information on the Firehouse Art Center can be found online at www.normanfirehouse.com.

MAINSITE CONTEMPORARY ART (122 E. Main, 405-292-8095) welcomes the Gloss and Grime group of artists for a short show and blow out event, Friday November 12th from 6-10pm as part of Norman Arts Council 2nd Friday Circuit of Art. Artists in the Gloss and Grime group are Dan Heidebrecht, Deborah DiBlasi, David Crismon, Jerrod Smith, Dylan Bradway, Jansen Sterba, Adam Stewart and Christian Pitt. The night of Friday November 12th will include Dan Heidebrecht doing a sound art installation and a spectacle of art that will blow your mind.

FRED JONES JR MUSEUM OF ART (555 Elm Ave, 405-325-3272) will have mosaic tiles for art activities, live music by the OU School of Music, two short films by the deadCENTER Film Festival, and free admission 6-9 pm.

STANDING BUFFALO ART GALLERY (106 E Main St, 405-701-4060) features Norman’s finest selection of American Indian fine art in every media: paintings, prints, jewelry, pottery, baskets, rugs, sculpture and an excellent selection of made in Oklahoma gifts.

• MARISSA’S EATERY – (318 E Main St) will have live music and artist, Kim Kueteman, who will perpetuate Huktiana’s story through South West and Native American designs.  They are also collaborating with other local artists to showcase a variety of art. In addition, they will be offering a sampling of food selected from their fusion menu. 

THE CRUCIBLE – (110 E Tonhawa St, 405-579-2700) will showcase a new artist display and original woodcarvings and didgeridoo’s from Tulsa’s James Wallace. Come listen to James playing from his didgeridoo’s. Also, Native American Earrings - Beaded and Quill work by Sheri Plenty Bull with the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota will be on display. You won’t want to miss it.
