2nd Friday says Goodbye Girl, Hello Robot!

The 2nd Friday Circuit of Art is more eclectic than ever on October 8, 2010. Sooner Theatre opens its show “The Goodbye Girl” at 101 East Main Street. With music by Marvin Hamlisch, this Neil Simon work is a must-see. The show will be running October 8-10 and 15-17th.

Just down the street in the Downtown Arts District is Form + Function Lab at 123 East Main Street. Nick Lillard, of Form + Function Lab, will be performing in a new, giant steel robot outfit called “OverBot” from 8:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Also at 123 East Main is the aptly named Gallery 123. Here you will find a collection of works for sale by the artists themselves. Starting with October’s 2nd Friday Circuit of Art, Gallery 123 will be the host to the Trunk Show Art Sale.

The Standing Buffalo Art Gallery is open for 2nd Friday, offering the best selection of American Indian art as well as a great selection of made in Oklahoma products, perfect for early gift shopping for the upcoming holiday season.

MAINSITE Contemporary Art Gallery continues its exhibition of John Seward and O. Gail Poole’s works with a midway reception at 120 East Main Street.

If you are in the mood for music, travel down to Michelangelo’s Coffee & Wine Bar to hear the piano duet of Rebecca & Candace – two graduate students in Piano from the University of Oklahoma.

Dreamer Concepts brings Dreamers 28: Out of This World, an otherworldly experience bringing together art and science fiction with a series of individual works, installations and collaborations by Greg Brown and Saxon Rhea.  These works present a mind-bending glimpse into a possible future world in which the line between biology and technology is blurred and art becomes nature.

A quick jump across Porter Avenue brings you to 2nd Friday’s newest addition, STASH store. STASH welcomes the artist Christopher Scott. Those unable to attend the STASH store grand opening in September will want to make sure to visit.

It’s not all happening on Main Street though. Just north on Gray, Sonder Music will be hosting David Bowden, slam poet. Bowden will be performing in support of Wishing Well: Water for the World. Art made by children from Rwanda showing where and how they get water every day, as well as art inspired by the water crisis in Africa, will be on exhibit and for sale.

A bit further north, art-goers can visit the Art Therapy Center. The Art Therapy Center and the Art Therapy Association of Oklahoma will sponsor an art show by Oklahoma Art Therapists, art making, items for sale and all-around friendly open house amenities. The Art Therapy Center is home to several norman art therapists/artists: Joan Phillips, Aimee Rook, Lory Turner, and Ashley Hughes.

Take a ride on the CART and head over to visit the Firehouse Art Center to view the Children’s Art Show. Then stop on by the Jacobson House for amazing food and the music of Ritmo Panoramico a Latin American acoustic duo.

2nd Friday Circuit of Art, collaboration between the Norman Arts Council, Norman Gallery Association, CART and many participating galleries and businesses, brings the art out every month in Norman. Whether you like dance, painting, photography, or music, there will be something for you to see and hear during the 2nd Friday of this month in Norman.

As always, all events are free and open to the public from 6:00 p.m. until at least 9:00 p.m.

For more information on 2nd Friday Circuit of Art or other Norman Arts Council events, please visit www.NormanArts.org, or call the NAC office at 405-360-1162.
